The world as we know it is changing and recent events have forced us to take a closer look at how we live our lives. Food security, in terms of quantity, quality and cost, is now of greater concern. Technology is advancing at a fast rate, making it possible for more communities to have access to wholesome foods. First Nation Growers has joined forces with world experts to take advantage of today’s leading technologies to help First Nation communities live a better life with access to organic foods.
New Canadian organic aquaculture laws have recently come into effect and organic aquaponics is now accepted in Canada and can be certified as “Canada Bio”. By definition,“organic” means produced without the use of chemicals or other artificial ingredients.Organic aquaponic farming is a method that raises fish while providing nutrients to plants that are also grown in water. Although aquaponics has been around for thousands of years, it is only in the last few decades that this way of intensive food production in a controlled environment has become of interest to a new generation of organic farmers.
